Mastering the Transition to ISO 55001:2024: Essential Changes and Strategies
Get your asset management system ready for ISO 55001:2024 before the transition deadline.
ISO 55001:2024 was published in July 2024 and replaces the 2014 edition. Certificates issued against ISO 55001:2014 stop being valid after July 2027. If your organisation misses that date, it has to go through a full initial certification (Stage 1 and Stage 2) as a new client. This self-paced online course shows you what has changed, why it changed and what your organisation needs to do to transition on time.
The course follows the standard clause by clause and keeps the focus on practical work. By the end you'll have moved from understanding the revision to having a structured, owned transition plan.
What you'll learn
  • The reasons for the revision: the pressures behind the 2024 update, its four key themes, and how the Harmonized Structure makes integration with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and other management systems easier
  • A full 2014 → 2024 change map: which requirements are new, revised, relocated or largely unchanged, and how to use that map as the basis for your gap assessment
  • New requirements in detail: the asset management decision-making framework (Clause 4.5), organisational knowledge (Clause 7.7) and predictive action (Clause 10.3)
  • Strengthened requirements: leadership accountability, climate change in context, stakeholder impacts, the dedicated SAMP subclause (6.2.1), the separate handling of risks and opportunities, and the split of change management between planning (6.3) and operational control (8.2)
  • Data, information and life cycle management: the expanded data requirements in Clause 7.6, explicit life cycle management in operations, and externally provided processes, products and services
  • Performance evaluation and improvement: expanded management review inputs, internal audit updates and continual improvement
  • Transition planning: gap assessment, action planning, implementation, evidence generation, audit preparation and stakeholder communication
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
  1. Identify the key updates between ISO 55001:2014 and ISO 55001:2024
  2. Explain how new and revised requirements affect your asset management system's processes, roles, decisions and evidence
  3. Assess your existing procedures to find the adjustments needed for conformity
  4. Develop a structured, owned action plan for implementation and transition assurance
